OUR HISTORY

Founders

Our Founders

Founded in 1975 by Two Comboni Missionaries

They are Rt. Rev. Bishop Sixto Mazzoldi and Very Rev. Fr. John Marengoni; both of happy memories, in Moroto Catholic Diocese in the Northern Part of Uganda.

Congregation Name

The name was officially given on 8th December 1975. The first center was in Morulem - Moroto Diocese, with 14 Tanzanian girls and 6 from Uganda as the first members.

First Postulants

On 16th July 1976, the first 20 aspirants became Postulants at the Apostles of Jesus' Mother House in Moroto Catholic Diocese, Uganda.

Milestones in the History of the Evangelizing Sisters of Mary

December 9, 1976

The first Postulants moved from Amaler to Kilacha Convent in Moshi Catholic Diocese - Tanzania.

March 25, 1977

The first members joined Novitiate, marking its beginning. The Constitutions of the Institute were also approved by the Holy See.

January 1, 1979

Twenty members made their First Religious Vows. This started the annual profession tradition.

1990

Kilacha Convent Novitiate was closed, consolidating Novitiate formation at Ongata Rongai, Kenya.

From 1991

The First Profession date was moved from January 1 to March 25, Feast of the Annunciation of the Lord.

July 27, 1987

Our Co-founder, Rt. Rev. Bishop Sisto Mazzoldi, passed away at the age of 87.

July 27, 2007

Very Rev. Fr. John Marengoni, our Founder, passed on at the age of 85 - exactly 20 years after our Co-founder.

March 26, 2013

Death of the first Formator and first Superior General of the MCESM, who led the Institute from 1975 to 1989. May God rest their souls in His Eternal Peace. Amen.
